Parish Quiet Day

On Saturday 1 July, seventeen of us, led by Fr Paul, attended a Quiet Day at S Dominic's Priory, Sway.

On our arrival we were warmly greeted with tea, coffee and biscuits, prior to the first address.

Sr Veronica spoke on the implications and application of LOVE, emphasizing that the word in our day and age, is usually misused. REAL love in the Christian sense has to involve a willingness to make sacrifices and accept hardship.

The first address was followed by a period of free time. Sr Veronica suggested that we should not talk during this time - so while some sat and read, and some just soaked up the sun, others wandered around the lovely grounds thinking their own thoughts.

Next, Fr Paul celebrated mass, prior to lunch. Some intercessions were made.

Sr Veronica's afternoon address was on the subject of apostleship. She stressed that one cannot be a true apostle ("one who is sent") without having encountered the living Christ. One can be an apostle simply through chatting and lending an ear to people one meets by chance. Sr Veronica reiterated St Francis' words - "Preach the gospel, and if necessary use words."

We then had meditation, hymns and prayers in the sisters' chapel, and the day ended as it had begun, with tea, coffee - and this time, cakes.

A refreshing day was enjoyed by all.
