Dates for your diary

Future Events

Fr PAUL’s last service at S. Francis will be on Sunday 11th April. We plan to mark this occasion so please keep the date free; details will appear both in the magazine and on the news sheet (and the website) nearer the time.

During the interregnum, your churchwardens and PCC hope to maintain the Sunday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday Masses. We have a celebrant for the 10am Parish Mass up to the end of June and are now working on the weekday masses.

Remember, this is an occasion for the faithful lay Christians too & not just the clergy. It’s important to express our unity with bishop Keith, especially at this critical time in the life of the Church, and to come together with Christians from parishes like our own in the dioceses of Winchester, Portsmouth and Guildford. Wednesday 17 February . ASH WEDNESDAY to THE FIRST DAY OF LENT. It’s a common habit to put things off, especially if we don’t want to do them or if they involve a bit of effort. Trying to improve our relationship with God is something that we can’t afford tom put off because, as the special ceremony at today’s Mass reminds us, we are dust and to dust we shall return. So what must we doto The words that accompany the imposition of ashes sum it up exactly: “Turn away from sin and be faithful to the gospel” Lent is all about responding to these words. As we hear the story of Mary and Joseph taking their new-born child to the Temple in Jerusalem, we are reminded of what Simeon said when he took the baby in his arms. This is someone who will be a light to all the peoples of the world. We receive that light in baptism, and as we go through life we must reflect it and share it with others. Our procession with lighted candles and Christingles from the church hall to the church at the beginning of the
10 am Mass symbolises this truth. We hope that we will be joined by members of our Scout Group. As usual we shall be collecting money for the work of the Children’s Society, and special envelopes will be available
